Pegasus software found on journalists' phones in El Salvador

Citizen Lab and Access Now have released a new report stating that the Pegasus spyware, developed by Israeli company NSO, was used to spy on 35 journalists in El Salvador.

The targets were journalists El Faro, GatoEncerrado, La Prensa Gráfica, Revista Digital Disruptiva, Diario El Mundo, El Diario de Hoy and two independent journalists. Pegasus was installed on their phones between July 2020 and November 2021. The hack allegedly occurred while journalists were reporting on issues related to the presidential administration.
The El Salvadorian government is said to have denied involvement.
