A Brazilian pastor who was caught praying for the second Holocaust two years ago was sentenced to 18 years and six months in prison – a historic sentence that hit headlines all over Brazil.
“This is a historic verdict in the fight against anti-Semitism. This is the heaviest punishment applied in Brazil for such a crime and will help to suppress this odious practice,” said Ricardo Sidi, legal director of the Brazilian Confederation of Israelites, the country's umbrella Jewish organization, who acted as an assistant to the prosecution.
Tupirani da Hora Lores, head of Generation Jesus Christ Pentecostal Church in Rio, came under the spotlight for instigating his small but ardently radical religious audience.
“Destroy the Jews, God, strike them with the sword, for they forsook God, they forsook the nations,” Da Prayed Hora Lores in her sermon, which was filmed.
