 PA Arrests Lawyer Suspected of Funding Lion's Den

Palestinian security forces have arrested a lawyer on suspicion of funding the Nablus-based Lion's Den armed group, which has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians. The Palestinian Bar has identified the lawyer as Dorgam Khairy Saman, 36. It says he was arrested on January 29 after being called in for questioning in Ramallah by Palestinian security forces.

The Palestinian Bar Association said on Friday evening that Samana was arrested after receiving a “documented shipment” of from an unidentified gold dealer. The statement said Samana's mobile phone was seized and he was unable to notify the Palestinian Bar of his arrest. The lawyer is being held in solitary confinement and deprived of medical care, the department added.

“The investigation focuses on the Palestinian resistance in Nablus and Hamas and their connection with gold,” – reported by the Palestinian Bar Association. “Samana denies the allegations and remains in arbitrary detention in violation of the Palestinian Basic Law”.

According to the Palestinian Bar, Samana was interrogated several times about funding the Lion's Den group. and illegal possession of weapons.

The Al-Araby Al-Jadeed news site reported on Saturday that Samana had gone on a 36-hour hunger strike to protest his detention. However, he denied torture or ill-treatment by investigators. The lawyer was questioned about his relationship with members of the Lion's Den, including Wadi al-Hukh, one of the group's commanders, who was killed by Israeli security forces in Nablus in October 2022 of the year.
