Princess Martha Louise, daughter of Norway's King Harald, said on Tuesday that she would no longer officially represent the Norwegian royal house due to “too many questions about me and the role of my fiancé”.
The 51-year-old princess, fourth in line to the Norwegian throne, got engaged in June to Durek Verrett, an American who describes himself as a shaman and healer on his website.
” “I have made the decision that I will no longer perform official duties in the royal court from now on,” the palace said in a statement, adding that the decision was made in consultation with her parents “to create peace around the royal court.”
King Harald decided that his daughter retain the title of princess. Organizations patronized by Martha Louise, sister of Crown Prince Haakon, 49, have already been informed of the changes.
After the wedding, Verrett will become part of the royal family, although traditionally he will not have any titles and will not perform representative duties.
