|News » Incidents
The death toll in New Zealand from Cyclone Gabriel rose to nine by Saturday morning.
Last Sunday, a cyclone hit New Zealand in the upper part of the North Island, and then hit the east coast, causing widespread destruction.
The government declared a national emergency due to the devastation caused by the hurricane, the third time in New Zealand's history.
Recently Prime Minister-designate Chris Hipkins said the storm was New Zealand's biggest natural disaster in a century.
