“New War”: PA outraged by Israeli sanctions

Israel is waging a new war against the Palestinian people, their money and opportunities, Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said on Monday.

He accused the new Israeli government of trying to overthrow the international recognized PA authorities and warned that a series of new Israeli sanctions could further fuel the bloody period of hostilities. This is reported by Ynet.

Shtayyeh said that the Israeli measures taken in response to the actions of the Palestinians in the UN, “aimed at overthrowing the government and pushing it to the brink of the abyss financially and institutionally.”

“We view these measures as a new war against the Palestinian people, their capabilities and means, as well as a war against national power, its survival and its achievements,” the Palestinian prime minister said.
< br /> The Israeli measures came in response to the proposal of the Palestinians at the UN to ask the International Court of Justice to issue a legal opinion on the “occupation” Israel. As part of the sanctions, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich ordered the distribution of $40 million in frozen Palestinian funds to the families of victims of terrorism.

Shtayyeh, according to the Jerusalem Post, called the actions “illegal.” He called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to stop “piracy” Palestinian money.

The Palestinian Prime Minister also added, “We do not trade our right to self-determination and our freedom for money or privileges. These measures are aimed at undermining the Palestinian Authority, but they will fail. We will stand together in the face of these measures and share the burden for the sake of the martyrs and prisoners, as well as for the sake of Palestine.
