New Airbnb Rules for New Year: Who Can Rent< /p>

If earlier everyone could rent a house on New Year's Eve, now this will change. Some categories of guests will not be able to book accommodation during the New Year period for one night in 11 countries around the world. Tough rules will be in place in these parts of the world to help stop unauthorized parties on New Year's Eve.

In particular, under the new restrictions, on New Year's Eve, it will be impossible to book an entire list of guest houses for one night without a positive account history or without prior bookings on the platform.

Stricter restrictions will also be introduced for the same categories of guests who will try to book accommodation for two and three nights near their permanent residence.

Restrictions will apply on New Year's Eve in the following countries:

  • USA
  • Canada
  • Brazil
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • France
  • Spain
  • United Kingdom
  • Ireland
  • Portugal
  • Netherlands

“We estimate that these measures have contributed to the annual global drop in New Year party incidents of around 56% since protection was first launched in 2020”, –

Last year, about 340,000 guests worldwide were blocked from booking on Airbnb during the New Year period, including more than 120,000 guests in the US, more than 34, 5,000 guests in the UK and nearly 13,000 guests in Australia.

As a reminder, the New Year's Eve restriction is in addition to Airbnb's global party ban that was introduced in 2020 and limits gatherings of more than 16 people per rented premises, as well as all dangerous parties and events. Violators face suspension or permanent removal from the platform.
