Daily consumption of 150 grams of blueberries reduces the risk of developing diseases of the cardiovascular system by fifteen percent, found researchers from the UK and the USA. The results of a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, writes the Chronicle.info with reference to EurekAlert.
Physicians interested in how this berry affects people suffering from metabolic syndrome. Under this condition refers to a combination of risk factors for heart disease such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar in the blood and low “good” cholesterol, and the accumulation of fat deposits in the waist.
Previous studies have shown that people who regularly consume blueberries, less likely to develop type II diabetes. This time scientists have tried to understand how the product is useful for patients who are already at risk.
For research scientists attracted 138 people aged 50 to 75 years, with overweight and metabolic syndrome. Participants were asked to eat one (150 grams) or half a Cup of chilled blueberry every day, another group drank a placebo similar in colour and taste quality of the berries.
Disclosed cause of fatal heart disease
“We found that a daily Cup of blueberries significantly improves blood circulation and strength blood vessels. A positive effect can be estimated in the range of 12-15 percent,” said one of the authors of the study, Dr. Medical school Norwich University of East Anglia.
The use of a smaller serving of blueberries had no effect on the health of the participants, said the researchers.
