Moscow outraged by calls to remove Russians from the Olympics

Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin commented on the calls of ministers from more than 30 countries to remove Russian and Belarusian athletes from the Olympic Games in 2024.

This is reported by TASS.

According to Matytsin, such calls are made in an attempt to “humiliate” athletes of the two countries.

“This indicates the level of culture of the corresponding pan. And his desire to split the unity of sport, violate all principles and humiliate athletes. But by this he humiliated himself, and not those to whom he addressed, ", — he said, commenting on the proposal of the Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland, Kamil Bortnichuk, to create a “team of refugees” for the participation of Russians.

Matytsin noted that political pressure to allow Russians to compete is a “big challenge”; for the International Olympic Committee.

“If the IOC makes concessions and succumbs to influence, this will create a precedent and negatively affect the development of sport, its unity. I hope that this will be consolidated by the international federations, which have already supported the decision of the IOC. National Olympic Committees must show that they are an independent force”, — he noted.
