Monkeypox infected people are advised to avoid contact with animals

The British Health Agency UKHSA has issued new recommendations for those who have contracted monkeypox.

Among other things, infected people are advised to avoid all contact with their pets within 21 days.

Hamsters, gerbils and other pets may be susceptible to the virus. There are fears that monkeypox could spread among animals.

The UK said no cases of animal infection have been identified so far and the risk remains low.

” “If you're not careful, you can create an animal reservoir for the disease, which could lead to its spread back to humans, and we will find ourselves in an infection loop,” said virologist Lawrence Young.
