Miss Universe: the great-grandfather of a Puerto Rican participant survives the Holocaust

Great-grandfather Michelle Marie Colon, who won the Miss Puerto Rico title, survived the Holocaust.

This is the Puerto Rican beauty said while in Israel, where the Miss Universe contest is held.

“My great-grandfather, Rodolfo Cohn, was a Holocaust survivor. He moved to the Caribbean and met my great-grandmother Dorila Thomas & ndash; an Afro-Caribbean woman, a descendant of slaves, who was one of the elders on the farm. Together they formed a strong, loving family based on compassion and resilience '', & ndash; Colon reported.

This story was shared when the contestants visited Yad Vashem.

& quot; I came here to Israel knowing that I would be more connected with my family as my great-grandfather survived the Holocaust, and all other members of his family & ndash; sisters, brothers and even four daughters were killed in concentration camps, especially in Auschwitz, ”she said.

According to Yad Vashem Chairman Dani Dayan, Colon is a 21-year-old medical student. He noted that the beauty contest participant surprised her rivals with this story.
