Vice-captain of the German club RB “Leipzig” Willy Orban will save the life of a stranger. This was reported on
the club's official website. February 11 “Leipzig” will play in the central match of the Bundesliga tour against Union. Leipzig probably won't be able to count on 30-year-old defender Willy Orban for this clash.
The fact is that the footballer has been on the list of potential donors since 2017. On February 8, the defender of “Leipzig” became a stem cell donor for a stranger with blood cancer. Orban admitted that he did not doubt for a second that his choice was correct, because such a step would help save someone's life.
“ save a life without undue effort. Of course, at first I was surprised that I could become a donor, but I had no doubts”, – Orban said. “There can be no two opinions here. I hope I can help save this man's life and help him heal.
Due to the donation, the defender stopped training with the team and kept fit in the individual program. On February 9, the football player posted a photo from the hospital on his Instagram account, where he called on everyone to become donors in order to save human lives. Because of the donation, Orban may also miss the next Leipzig match; against “Union”, which will be held on February 11.
“Yeah, maybe I won’t play with the Union, but now it fades into the background. I would like as many people as possible to register in this database. It's really very simple. My example confirms that this makes sense”, – added the Leipzig footballer.
“Leipzig” and “Union” compete for Bundesliga medals. After 19 rounds “Union” ahead by 3 points. Lagging behind the leader of the season “Bayern” is only 4 points. Between the fourth “Leipzig” and occupying the second position “Wion” Borussia Dortmund is located.
This season, Orban played for Leipzig. 29 matches in which he scored 3 goals as a central defender. In total, since 2015, the footballer has already played 269 matches for the club, scoring 25 goals. His contract with the German club runs until the end of June 2025.
