 Ministry of Health warns of dangerous river pollution in northern Israel

Ministries of Health and the Environment warn that swimming in some rivers in the north of the country can be hazardous to health.

Water samples taken on Tuesday indicate contamination

Pollution detected:

  • Shenir (Hatsbani) – from the mouth of the stream from Lebanon (Roman bridge) to the place where it flows into the Jordan;
  • Jordan – from the Yosef bridge to the Arik-Kol bridge (the mouth of the Kinneret);
  • Nakhal El-Al;
  • Nakhal Ha-Zachi;
  • Gilbon – Deborah waterfall , hexagonal pool;
  • Nahal Zalmon, Kaziv – Ein Hadralit, Batzat – Tafsit Elon.

The Ministry of Environment did not find a source of pollution or a cause that could explain the results analysis.

Selection water quality samples in a number of rivers in the north are carried out every two weeks by inspectors from the Nature and Parks Authority at fixed sampling points in the Upper Galilee, the Golan and the Western Galilee. A sampling point refers to specific sections of a stream, a waterfall or a pond.
