Millions of pills: record drug seizure in Saudi Arabia

Authorities in Saudi Arabia say they have seized a consignment of 46,916,480 pills that were smuggled into the country.

This is a record for the kingdom, BBC reports. The publication notes that they were amphetamine pills.

The drugs were hidden in a cargo of flour. Security forces tracked the cargo when it arrived at the port of Riyadh and moved to a warehouse. Six Syrians and two Pakistanis were arrested during the raid on the warehouse.

It is noted that the General Directorate of Narcotics Control did not say that amphetamine was found, but Saudi Arabia is the largest market for captagon pills – a mixture of amphetamine, caffeine and other components.
