 Microsoft blocked nearly 71 billion cyberattacks

Microsoft said it blocked almost 71 billion cyberattacks in 2021 using Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 and Microsoft Azure Active Directory (AD).

In particular, the following types of attacks were blocked:

• Endpoint threats:
• From January to December 2021, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint blocked over 9.6 billion malware targeting corporate and consumer devices;
• Email threats:
• From January to December 2021, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 blocked more than 35.7 billion phishing and other malicious emails targeting corporate and private customers;
• Identity threats:
• From January to December 2021, Microsoft (Azure Active Directory) detected and blocked more than 25.6 billion attempts to compromise corporate customer accounts by guessing stolen passwords;

Microsoft, however, also expressed concern about a very visible lack of implementation of methods such as multi-factor authentication and passwordless solutions.
