Meir Medical Center: remote cardiac rehabilitation

Imagine a world where the latest medical technology and the highest professionalism comes right into your living room, making rehabilitation accessible, enjoyable and personalized.

At the Meir Medical Center, from the "Clalit" operates a cardiac rehabilitation center, one of the most sought after in Israel, which is designed to treat patients who have had heart attacks and prevent recurrences. To make the services of the center even more accessible, a program of remote cardiorehabilitation was launched, offering patients to undergo rehabilitation at a convenient time and in an environment convenient for them. The program is led by Prof. Abed Asli, Head of the Department of Cardiology, Dr. Haskiya Abed, Head of the Institute for the Prevention and Rehabilitation of Heart Diseases, and Mr. Yigal Bar On, Chief Physiologist and Director of the Sports Center.

The program is designed for low-risk patients who have been medically examined and approved by a cardiologist at the Rehabilitation Institute. Patients are under the personal supervision of a multidisciplinary team of doctors, physiologists, psychologists, nutritionists, nurses and fitness trainers.

The system is based on software that allows it to receive data from equipment that is attached to and/or carried by the patient, such as smart watches that track physical activity by heart rate, number of steps, intensity, time, frequency and type of exercise, and equipment that allows you to receive data on blood pressure, glucose levels, blood oxygen saturation, temperature, weight, etc. The information is collected and controlled by the treatment team, and through the application on the patient's smartphone, he receives feedback, explanations and recommendations regarding his actions. Patients can communicate with the treatment team through the application, conversations with various experts are carried out by phone or using a program for remote communication management.

The software alerts you when it detects abnormal results, reminds you to return to training after taking too long of a break, and alerts you when your results improve or your progress slows down. Employees give patients personal feedback and, if necessary, remind them of scheduled meetings with a dietitian or other medical and rehabilitation authorities. All data obtained as a result of fitness training is documented in a medical record.

To be admitted to the program, the patient undergoes a medical examination, a stress test and a body composition test and receives physiological recommendations for the training program, as well as technological recommendations for the use of smart watches and various applications. A nutritionist and
psychologist conduct an initial assessment and counsel the patient throughout the program.
