 Mao Zedong's scroll thieves sent to prison

Three people have been imprisoned in Hong Kong for stealing art, including a scroll written by Mao Zedong. The document described the details of a Chinese Communist Party meeting and several verses from Mao's poetry.

The scroll was stolen back in September 2020 when thieves broke into the home of a well-known collector.

How According to the BBC, the thieves were unaware of the value of the scroll and sold it for less than 250 Hong Kong dollars (US$25). The buyer was also unaware of the value of the scroll and cut it in half for easy storage.

The owner of the scroll claimed that its value was estimated at about $300 million.

The defendants were sentenced to imprisonment freedom for up to two and a half years.
