Made history: Morocco opened a synagogue at the university

Morocco was the first Muslim country to open a synagogue at one of its universities.

The opening of the synagogue was due in no small part to the efforts of the Mimouna Association, Ynet reported.

According to Association President El Mehdi Boudra, the synagogue was not only built on a university campus for the first time in the Arab world, but was also built right next to a new mosque, as an example of Moroccan coexistence in action.

“It's a small synagogue, but it may have a minyan, and the Torah scrolls and all religious supplies were donated by the Jewish communities of Fez and Marrakesh,” he said.
