Macron called for peace talks between Israel and the PA

French President Emmanuel Macron called on Israel and the Palestinian Authority to return to peace talks. He made the corresponding statement at a joint press conference with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, who visited Paris. “We need to resume direct political dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians,” he said. Macron warned that violence could erupt at any moment. He believes that the negotiations may turn out to be “the hard way”, but there is still no alternative. In turn, Abbas condemned the murder of Al-Jazeera journalist Shirin Abu Akle, which he blamed on Israel. He also called for the resumption of negotiations on the basis of a “two-state solution”.
