Lightning struck a group of runners in Greece

A group of runners were running at night on Mount Falakro in northern Greece when they were struck by lightning.

One runner was killed and another seriously injured, according to The Guardian.

Two fire rescue teams climbed the mountain from the nearby city of Drama and found a dead runner and an injured comrade.

The runners are known to have competed in the Six Spades races. By the time the lightning struck, several of the 55 athletes have already reached the finish line. The runners had 12 hours to complete the race.
