|
Japanese scientists at the University of Tokyo are working on a coronavirus vaccine that could give lifelong immunity. This is reported by The Japan Times.
The researchers took the smallpox vaccine as a basis. Scientists are reportedly trying to create a recombinant vaccinia virus that will include the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein that causes coronavirus.
According to preliminary data, one dose of such a vaccine at this stage is effective for 20 months.
Clinical trials of the vaccine may start as early as 2023.
