Legendary American rock singer passed away

78-year-old rock singer and founder of The Ronette Ronnie Spector (Veronica Yvette Bennett) has died in the USA. A message about this appeared on her official website.

The family said in a statement that Ronnie passed away on Wednesday, January 12, after a short battle with cancer.

Bennett and two sisters founded the girl group The Ronettes in 1961. The band signed a contract with producer Phil Spector, whom the singer later married.

The Ronettes released a number of hits from the 1960s, including Be My Baby and Walking in the Rain.

Rolling Stone magazine named Spector to the list of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, where she was ranked 69th, and Be My Baby was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
