Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez has been arrested after the US demanded his extradition on drug and arms trafficking charges.

The arrest was made on February 15, just a few days after Hernandez's term expired.

Hernandez is known to appear in court within 24 hours. This will be his first hearing.

According to an extradition request filed in Honduras, Hernandez was involved in a conspiracy that has sold about 500,000 kg of cocaine since 2004. The ex-president previously called the accusations “a lie made up by drug dealers who want revenge.”
