On Monday, August 29, Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Minister of Culture and Sports Hili Tropper met with Israeli athletes participating in the European Championships. This was reported by the press service of the office of the head of government. The meeting was also attended by Simon Davidson, Chairman of the Knesset Subcommittee on Sports, Yael Arad, Chairman of the Israeli Olympic Committee, coaches of the national teams, representatives of the swimming, athletics and gymnastics federations. “The State of Israel used to be a country of only football and basketball. Now is your time. Now the children of the whole country look up to you, each in his own sport. You become a role model for every child in Israel, for every person. A model of discipline and fidelity to the path you have chosen,” said Lapid. According to the prime minister, some of the athletes are engaged in individual sports, and this requires great self-discipline, no matter how good the coach is. "We invited you to say that we are proud of you and that the attention of the whole country was riveted on you. I know that each of you has been focused on your own experiences, on the competition in your sport, and on the great efforts made to win. We were very worried about you and we are proud of you,” he added.
