Kochavi sanctioned the use of drones for liquidations in Judea and Samaria

IDF chief of staff gave green light targeted killings of terrorists by drones in Judea and Samaria.

Minutes after the fight in Jenin, during which the IDF killed 4 armed terrorists, the Chief of the General Staff, General Aviv Kochavi, decided to authorize targeted countermeasures in Judea and Samaria – in case of operational need. Along with this, the military is preparing to expand its security and patrol activities.

Against the backdrop of the holidays of Tishrei, a decision was made to expand operational activities against terrorism. A meeting was held to assess the operational situation in the Central Command. A decision was made to approve targeted liquidations in Judea and Samaria. Training and courses have been stopped in some units in order to divert forces to military needs, and the mobilization of reserve forces is also beginning.

At the same time, there is no enthusiasm at the political level to expand the operation, and currently there consensus on this. At the consultations held by Minister of Defense Gantz with Prime Minister Lapid, an explanation was given – the line of contact with the territories is “relatively closed”, and intelligence is working efficiently. A source in the security agencies expressed concern that the introduction of forces with a permanent presence in Judea and Samaria “will inflame the situation and lead to an escalation.”
