IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi presented the results of a preliminary investigation into the fatal incident that occurred near Tulkarm. Fitoussi.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, 20-year-old Nathan Fitoussi left the guard post, but on his return, his comrade suspected him of a threat and opened fire.
The soldier who opened fire, realized that he had shot his comrade and reported the incident to his commanders. Those, in turn, sent medical teams to the scene. Nathan Fitoussi was given first aid and then taken to the hospital, where he died from his wounds.
The initial investigation was carried out together with the Chief of the Central Command, Major General Yehuda Fuchs, and other senior IDF officers.
Fuchs has appointed Liron Beaton, commander of the 55th Airborne Brigade, to head a team of experts to further investigate the incident. The team will present their findings to Kochavi.
“I express my deepest condolences to the family of the late Nathan Fitoussi. The incident is serious, difficult and very regrettable, and we are investigating it thoroughly and professionally,” Kochavi said.
