Last night, the winter storm Elpis, which previously hit Turkey, Greece and Cyprus, reached Israel.

Snow fell on the Golan Heights, in Galilee, Jerusalem, Gush Etzion and Samaria. Snow depth is expected to reach 15cm.

Highway 1 from Sha'ar HaGai to the entrance to Jerusalem was closed due to snow. Road 45 is closed from Atarot to Ofer, Highway 443 from Ofer to Shilat, Begin Highway from Ramot to Rosemary.


In Jerusalem, it snowed from 19:00 until morning. The municipality prepared for the storm in advance. School classes have been cancelled. In the morning, salt will be scattered on the roads of the capital, 200 snowplows will be ready for work.

Due to snow last night, the exit from Jerusalem and the tunnel road between Jerusalem and Gush Etzion were temporarily blocked. The roads were later opened. All road closures will be temporary until the ice is cleared from them.

It is expected that in Gush Etzion, at an altitude of over 1000 meters, the depth of snow will reach 40 cm.
