Israeli yeshiva student wins silver medal at international competition

Tora Umada Yeshiva High School student of Jerusalem College of Technology (JCT) was awarded a silver medal for his efforts at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) held in Indonesia last month.

The competition featured three difficult programming questions to be solved within five hours. Eitan Elbaum, 17, placed second out of 346 students from 90 countries, eventually earning a silver medal for second place.

“I never thought I'd reach the level of being a member of a delegation representing Israel, and I certainly didn't imagine I could bring a medal,” — Elbaum said.

The Israeli delegation sent four students to the Olympiad virtually as Israeli citizens are banned from entering Indonesia— the largest Muslim state in the world by population.
