An Israeli tourist was found dead in his hotel room in India, the Foreign Ministry said Friday.
Local reports say the 32-year-old man was found dead in Wednesday in his room near the Himalayan mountain of Sandakpur in northeast India by a guide he hired when he didn't show up for the tour. The mountains near the famous tea plantations of Darjeeling — a popular hiking area.
Local police believe he died of natural causes, and there is no suspicion of a violent death.
“There are no signs of trauma on his body. At first glance, it looks like natural death. However, the exact cause can be confirmed after we receive the autopsy report,” — Darjeeling Police Chief Santhosh Nimbalkar said in a statement.
The Foreign Ministry said the man's family has been informed and the New Delhi embassy is working closely with local authorities to assist them and deliver the body home.
