Israeli troops entered a Palestinian city in Judea and Samaria on Wednesday, leading to clashes. As a result, at least nine Palestinians were killed, including a 72-year-old man. This was reported by Palestinian health officials.
This is one of the deadliest incidents in nearly a year of fighting in Judea and Samaria and east Jerusalem, raising the prospect of further bloodshed. The Hamas militant group that governs Gaza said “its patience is running out.”

The Israeli military has provided few details about its operation in Nablus. The city is known as a militant stronghold and the army often conducts operations there.
Palestinian authorities said three of Wednesday's dead were members of organized militant groups. But a 72-year-old man was also killed, and there is no information about whether the other two 20-year-old men killed belonged to armed groups.
Amateur video footage shows Israeli forces operating in the center of Shechem, and army vehicles fire tear gas.
Since seizing control of Gaza in 2007, the group has fought Israel four times. Israeli officials have expressed concern about rising tensions ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which begins in March.
