 Israel celebrates Day for the Protection of the Rights of People with Disabilities

Israel's educational system celebrates International Day for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. In connection with this, five main buildings of the — in Jerusalem (Lev-Ram, Machanaim, the Italian Corps and the HEMED building) and in Tel Aviv (Ha-Shlosha, 2). In addition, special events dedicated to this day will be held in educational institutions of all levels throughout the country. Lectures, thematic round tables, seminars with the participation of schoolchildren, teachers, parents and members of the public are planned to promote understanding of the need to integrate people with disabilities. These activities reflect the ministry's commitment to the inclusion of all students in a variety of learning experiences. The Ministry of Education believes that every student has the right to learn on an equal footing with their immediate environment and, like others, to use the full possibilities of the system in the classroom, leisure and in extracurricular structures. “Purple Night” is an initiative of the Lottery Authority (Mifal a-Pais) and the Center for Local Government, timed to coincide with the International Day for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. As part of the event, public buildings are illuminated with purple light, as this color is considered a symbol of people with disabilities in the world. Minister of Education Dr. Yifat Shasha-Biton said: “The education system considers it very important to instill the values ​​of accepting every person, no matter who they are. International Day for the Protection of the Rights of People with Disabilities — a great occasion to remind us that we all have a responsibility to accept others. By following these principles, we create a better world not only for people with disabilities, but for all of us.” Director General of the Ministry of Education Dalit Stauber: “The International Day for the Protection of the Rights of People with Disabilities allows us to once again emphasize the need for the full integration of this category of citizens in society. Within the framework of this day, thematic lectures, seminars, round tables and other similar events will be held in educational institutions. The desire to accept and integrate each student, with any of his needs, stems from a deep understanding that the realization of the rights of students to meaningful learning with all social aspects of the process has added value and benefits the entire society.
