Has the Great Sphinx of Giza fallen asleep?

< /p>

The Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt closed its eyes after staring at people for centuries. At least, such information is spread on social networks, accompanied by photographs.

A statue of a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a man, which is believed to represent the pharaoh Kafra, who ruled Egypt around 2500 BC ., was originally carved with its eyes open, but social media users claim that the creature somehow fell asleep.

These rumors were quickly debunked by the Egyptian authorities. this is not the first time that fakes about the Great Sphinx have been circulating.

The Egyptian Tourism Information Center reported on Facebook that the photos were either edited or taken at a certain angle, which made it look like the eyes were closed.< br />
