An Iraqi court on Monday sentenced a British man to 15 years in prison for attempting to smuggle artifacts.

The accused tried to smuggle artifacts out of the country, Reuters reported. citing court sources.

Iraqi authorities arrested 66-year-old James Fitton at Baghdad International Airport in March for carrying small fragments of ancient pottery in his luggage.

German Volker Waldmann was with Fitton, he was acquitted.
