Indian guru sentenced to life in prison for rape

An Indian court on Tuesday sentenced self-proclaimed spiritual guru Asaram Bapuk to life in prison on charges of rape and sodomy.
This is reported by CNN, citing the defendant's lawyer.
< br /> This is the second life sentence for the octogenarian guru, who is already serving a life sentence after being convicted in 2018 of raping a 16-year-old girl.
The court also ordered Asaram Bapu to pay Rs 50,000 ) as compensation to the victim.
Asaram, 81, who is described on his website as a “spiritual revolutionary” and “great teacher”, is one of the most famous spiritual gurus in India.
