In India, prostitution is recognized as a profession

The Supreme Court of India issued a historic verdict, according to which prostitution is recognized as a profession. This is reported by The Logical Indian.

In addition, the court ruling states that “all sex workers are entitled to dignity and equal protection under the law.”

The Supreme Court has stressed that the police have a duty to take action and act in accordance with the law if any sex worker files a complaint of any criminal, sexual or other offence.

The Supreme Court of India Bench stressed that “voluntary sex work is not illegal”, so voluntary sex workers should not be blamed or prosecuted during raids on brothels.

While prostitution is not illegal, running brothels in India remains illegal.
