Measles outbreak in India kills 12 children

In the Indian city of Mumbai and surrounding areas, 12 children have died as a result of a measles outbreak.

According to the BBC, the first death was recorded around October 26-27, when three children died within 48 hours .

There were 233 confirmed cases in Mumbai this year – a three-fold jump from 92 cases and two deaths reported last year.

Authorities say lackluster campaign on vaccination against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic contributed to a surge in infections. Mumbai authorities said that about 20,000 children did not receive their measles vaccination on time due to the pandemic.
