At least 25 people have died when a bus crashed into a gorge in northern India's Uttarakhand state, India Today reported.
The accident occurred on Sunday, May 5, when a bus carrying 28 pilgrims from the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh fell into a gorge on the way to the Hindu holy city of Yamunotri in the Himalayas.
At the moment, the police and state emergency response officers are conducting a rescue operation.
Indian Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his condolences over the deaths of the pilgrims and added that the victims were taken to the nearest hospital. Dhami ordered an investigation into the incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the payment of compensation to the families of the victims in the amount of 200 thousand rupees (2.5 thousand dollars), and the victims – 50 thousand rupees (644 dollars).
