IDF: weather and technical failure allowed Lebanese to enter Israel

The IDF announced on Tuesday the initial results of an investigation into Sunday's incident in which a Lebanese man successfully crossed into Israel despite all security measures. According to the preliminary investigation, a combination of human and technical errors helped the intruder.

The initial review placed some of the blame on inclement weather, although such weather does occur occasionally during the winter of the year. Errors were filtered out through both reporting and data collection mechanisms.

The IDF said the investigation would continue and would help security forces avoid similar incidents in the future. The incident was particularly embarrassing because it was made public by the Lebanese media after the perpetrator returned to Lebanon.

According to the IDF, the perpetrator appears to have mental and emotional problems and crossed the border many times over 20 -summer period.
