IDF: soldier who shot colleague removed from combat missions

The Israeli soldier who accidentally shot and killed his comrade Nathan Fitoussi in August has been suspended.

This was announced by the IDF, which is completing an investigation into the incident with a friendly fire, according to the Times of Israel.

Nathan Fitoussi, 20, was shot dead after returning to a guard post near the Palestinian city of Tulkarm and was mistaken for a threat.

The IDF noted that the soldier stationed with Fitoussi was removed from combat duty “because he did not meet the operational standards expected of an IDF soldier.”

The military police are still investigating the accident with a fatal outcome, and upon completion of the investigation, its findings will be transmitted to the Military Prosecutor's Office for verification.
