A disabled veteran of the IDF tried to commit suicide outside the Israeli Defense Ministry's rehabilitation department in Tel Hashomer, The Jerusalem Post reports.
50-year-old man doused himself with gasoline and raised a lighter to set himself on fire. The guards prevented him from carrying out his plan. The man was evacuated to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Ministry of Defense told Galya IDF radio that the veteran was declared disabled back in 1994. For two weeks, he petitioned for PTSD, a post-traumatic stress disorder, to be recognized. According to the Ministry of Defense, the man was contacted and offered psychiatric treatment while his appeal was being considered.
