Israeli media report “strong controversy” between Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and senior officials of the Shin Bet and the IDF.
During the assessment of the security situation, which was attended by senior representatives of the government, the army command and the leadership of the Shin Bet, a sharp disagreement emerged between Bennett and the military establishment on how to respond to the wave of terror.
The IDF and Shin Bet have said they intend to “continue to differentiate, separate and isolate the various arenas.” Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi and Shin Bet head Ronen Bar explained: “Sinoir is not leading the current wave of terror and should not be described as such, such actions only strengthen his position.”
Shin Bet and the IDF provided details recent terrorist attacks, demonstrating that Hamas is not involved in them.
At the same time, the political leadership believes that Hamas plays a very large role in the recent events, in the wave of terror that began about a month ago with agitation and incitement to violence “for the Al-Aqsa Mosque”. Bennett believes that Hamas bears the greatest responsibility for this – and must pay.
A source in the political leadership told Channel 12: leading to violence on the Temple Mount. It is wise to isolate one from the other in other arenas, but separating Yahya Sinuar in this case is less wise. Gaza cannot remain secure if it incites violence in Judea and Samaria and the West Bank”.
