The combination of working on the plots of your nightmares to change them in a positive way and the music allows you to get rid of this disorder. This method was invented by specialists from the University of Geneva. The usual method is to work on the plot, after which psychologists advise regularly recalling a good plot in order to prepare for sleep. However, this solution was not so effective. According to scientists, if you combine the first method with music, it will be much easier to get rid of chronic nightmares. The scientists divided the group of volunteers into two groups. The first used the first method. The second group, among other things, played the sound of a piano every 10 seconds while they were in REM sleep. As a result, the number of nightmares in the first subjects decreased from 2.58 per week to 1.02. But in the second group – from 2.94 to 0.19. After three months, the number of nightmares increased slightly in both groups — up to 1.48 and 0.33 respectively.
