High Court rejects petition to restrict abortion

The High Court categorically rejects the petition to restrict abortion after the 24th week of pregnancy.

The petition filed by the life defense association Be'ad Chaim was rejected on the grounds that Since abortion is a medical problem, there is no good reason to take away the power to authorize or deny abortion from a special commission. This is reported by the Jerusalem Post.

The court said in a statement: “Pregnancy is a very important event that has many consequences in a woman's life. The assessment of risks associated with pregnancy and its termination is professional. The decision is made, in accordance with the law, by a professional commission consisting of medical specialists and a social worker. Thus, the establishment of any artificial restriction or test, as the plaintiffs ask, is not only arbitrary, but also clearly contrary to the clear purpose of the law.
