“He leads a normal life.” Terrorist trial in Beer Sheva in 2016

The Israeli media published information about a terrorist who staged a massacre at a gas station in Beersheba on March 22.

The terrorist, Mohammed Abu Alqayyan, 33, from Khur, was a physical education teacher at a girls' school from 2007 to 2015. The Alkayan clan is considered one of the largest in the Negev with 8,000 members.

In 2016, he was sentenced to 4 years in prison for trying to escape with a group of Bedouins to ISIS in Syria.

The court ruled that despite the severity of his actions, the punishment “will not go beyond the limits provided for by the norm”.

Further, the judge in the verdict stated the following: “The accused is a teacher by profession, valued in the community, the father of five children and before committing the crime led a normative way of life. The accused took full responsibility for his actions.”
