The Ministry of Health has revoked licenses for the sale and use of hair straightening creams that contain glyoxylic acid.
The decision was made after more than 20 cases of serious side effects were identified. effects of hair straightening creams. In some cases, a side effect was renal failure, requiring dialysis. This is reported by the Jerusalem Post.
An advisory committee has found that there is a causal relationship between the time between straightening and kidney damage in reported cases.
The Ministry warns the public that use of unlicensed or non-licensed products may be harmful to health.
However, hair straighteners containing glyoxylic acid are still sold online and companies claim they are "safe".
