Iranian hackers recently hacked a number of popular Israeli travel booking websites, obtaining the personal information of over 300,000 Israelis. The incident took place two weeks ago and was confirmed by the Office of Defense on Thursday evening.
The attack affected the websites of the travel company Gol Tours LTD, which operates more than 20 travel booking websites.
The leak includes phone numbers, addresses, dates and locations of booked tours, and sensitive health information, authorities said in a statement.
The affected websites are reported to include: hotel4u.co.il, booking-hotels.co.il, booking-kibbutz.co.il, mlonot.co.il, noapass.co.il, gol.co.il, funtoursisrael .co. il, ortal.net, come2israel.co.il, and come2israel.com.
The Privacy Protection Authority said it immediately contacted the owner of Gol Tours LTD after the hack to fix the security flaws exploited by the hackers , but was refused cooperation.
“Necessary changes were not made”, — stated in the department, noting that they had begun an investigation into the incident.
