Germany faces blackout this winter

< /p>

The leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, Friedrich Merz, said that Germany will face a blackout this winter if the country insists on abandoning nuclear energy.

Merz said this in an interview with Bild am sonntag.

“If only one in five gas consumers were to be heated by electricity this winter, the electricity demand of private households would double. There is a risk of a complete overload of the energy system in the autumn-winter period and a shortage of electricity. If this government continues like this and insists on phasing out nuclear energy for ideological reasons, we will face a blackout early next year,” said Friedrich Merz.
