Georgia closed land border with Russia

Since the morning of Monday, June 27, the only checkpoint on the Georgian-Russian border has been closed for an indefinite period. The revenue service of the country's Ministry of Finance reported this.

in the Daryal Gorge “is closed due to severe meteorological conditions”: the exit from the banks of the Terek and Devdorak rivers, as a result of which the Darial highway – Lars has become unsuitable for traffic.

“The import and export of any goods and their customs inspection under these conditions are impossible, as well as the inspection of individuals,” – the agency said in a statement.

All the personnel of the Kazbegi checkpoint, as well as civilians who found themselves in the epicenter of the raging natural disaster, were transferred to a safe place.

Road Yerevan – Tbilisi – Vladikavkaz, one of the sections of which is called the Georgian Military Highway, on which the Kazbegi checkpoint operates, is of vital importance primarily for Armenia, as well as Georgia, since it is the only land highway connecting the two Transcaucasian states with the Russian Federation.

The road, passing high in the mountains on both the southern and northern slopes of the Main Caucasian Range, is often closed due to floods, mudflows or avalanches.
