Another trial is currently underway against the Gedera rape suspect. This comes after he was charged with the unintentional murder of two young men who were traveling with him in a car over two years ago.
Barakat Abu Essa accused of speeding on Highway 6 and a severe accident while on a trip in 2021. An indictment filed by prosecutors last year against Barhat Abu Ess states that he is charged with reckless homicide and driving without a valid insurance policy. This happened after he killed 2 young Bedouins who were traveling with him in a car.
According to the indictment, on September 13, 2020, Abu Essa was driving a Toyota on Highway 6 from north to south. However, he did not have valid car insurance. Together with him in the car were three more young men aged 16-17 who were not wearing seat belts. At a certain stage of the trip, on a section of the road where the speed limit was 110 km/h, he pressed the gas pedal and drove over the speed limit – 166 km/h.
At that moment, in the right rear wheel of the car had a flat tire, and as a result of a combination of his excessive speed and a flat tire, he lost control of the car, swerved to the left, went down to the dirt area to the left of the road and rolled over several times.
During the accident, two young passengers were thrown out of the car and died instantly. Abu Essa himself and another passenger suffered only minor injuries, were taken to hospital and later released. “The accused caused the death of R. and B. by his actions with prohibited inactions, and this is due to negligence, when he assumes the unjustified risk of the possibility of a result,” the indictment says.
