Gallen, Marte help Diamondbacks beat Dodgers
PHOENIX (AP) – Ketel Marte and Carson Kelly both hit dawn homers off Clayton Kershaw and led the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.
Zac Gallen pitched one-run ball over six innings for Arizona to keep the Dodgers from reaching 100 wins this season.
The Dodgers (99-56) followed behind San Francisco, leader of the NL West Division. The team that finishes second will host the wild-card game on Oct. 6, likely against St. Louis, which has set a franchise record with 15 wins in a row.
Gallen (3-10), who had not won since Aug. 26 against Philadelphia, struck out six in the first two innings.
Marte, who contributed three of Arizona’s nine hits, homered to left field on Kershaw’s first pitch. Kelly opened the second with a club that dropped the ball into the Diamondbacks bullpen behind left field.
Each batter hit his 13th home run of the season for Arizona, which is one of the two worst teams of the season, with 105 losses.
Kershaw (10-8) pitched just 4 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and four runs – three earned. He did not walk and struck out three.
For the Dodgers, Albert Pujols 1-0.
